From Geri McGuff on Jim Watkins

It’s with a very heavy heart that I pass along the tragic news of Jim’s passing yesterday.  Apparently, he suffered a massive heart attack while at his Idaho home.  He wasn’t feeling well; made a doctor’s appointment for the afternoon; and unfortunately, had the attack before he was able to make the appointment.

I’m sure, like me, you all sit in absolute shock of this unbelievable news.  We have lost an unwavering friend; a kind, loving, do anything for anybody guy; our “go-to” classmate that spent hours and hours of his own time making sure our ‘64 alumnae list was always kept up to date.  Class of ‘64 was a priority with Jim–I, personally, couldn’t thank him enough for spending the time he did for all of us.  He was one of the most selfless individuals I’ve met in my lifetime.

Apparently, services will be held next week in Idaho.  As soon as I hear anything in this regard, I will pass it along.  However, I thought possibly our breakfast group might want to have a memorial somewhere in O.C. in his honor?  If any of you have any ideas for this, please pass them along–we can discuss this at our December breakfast.  Also, please pass this sad news to anyone you know that is not on Don’s monthly ‘64 “breakfast list” (the names on this distribution list is those of you that Don Vary sends breakfast notices to).

May God rest his dear, kind soul, Jim will forever remain in our hearts.
